He angitūtanga: The opportunity
It’s an exciting time to be part of Auckland Council’s Natural Environment Group.
As environmental awareness and protection continues to grow across Tāmaki Makaurau, we’ve invested in a broad suite of programmes ranging from pest plant and pest animal control, kauri protection and increasing support for community-led conservation action.

We are looking for an experienced Conservation Advisor to join our Northern Delivery team within the Environmental Services Department.

From Tapora to Te Arai, and Muriwai to Campbells Bay, the North Delivery team works collaboratively with mana whenua, community conservation groups, and private landowners to increase indigenous biodiversity and reduce the environmental impacts of invasive pests.

You will be leading integrated indigenous ecosystem protection, species management, and invasive species control projects. You will provide advice and support to elected members, mana whenua, landowners, and community conservation groups, to protect, restore and enhance Auckland's natural environment.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You will lead and support interesting and challenging environmental projects that need creative and collaborative solutions.  You’ll have previous experience in providing best practice biodiversity and biosecurity advice and can deliver high-quality project management focused on protecting indigenous biodiversity, including reducing the impact of pest species, in both rural and urban environments.

A natural collaborator, confident in working in partnerships with mana whenua and community groups to protect the natural environment. We will value your strong relationship building skills as you will be working with elected members, the wider Auckland Council family, iwi, community groups and landowners to achieve shared environmental outcomes, as well as engaging the public and utilising behaviour change approaches.

You will also need a qualification in ecology, biodiversity, biosecurity, or a related discipline and/or equivalent work experience in ecosystem management.

Our focus is on creating a positive, inclusive work environment where staff wellbeing and career development are prioritised. Joining Environmental Services will provide you with the opportunity to work across the whole council family, with our mana whenua partners, community groups, private landowners, non-government organisations and central government to support best practice conservation projects and outcomes.

This is your chance to be part of a transformative programme that helps protect and restore the precious natural environment of Tāmaki Makaurau – for today and for future generations.

You’ll have access to a range of fantastic Auckland Council benefits, EAP services, an Oranga Day, discounted Leisure Centre membership and a range of other partnership discounts.
