He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Community Brokers work to create strong resilient communities and drive the achievement of local board priorities through the objectives of Kia Ora Tāmaki Makaurau and Ngā Hapori Momoho, the council’s key strategies for improving community wellbeing outcomes.

 

Day to day your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic insights and leadership
  • Connecting council, community, and elected members to foster positive change
  • Brokering and leveraging opportunities and increasing the value of outcomes, building and maintaining strong relationships with community delivery teams, local board members and diverse community organisations
  • Serving as a trusted source of local intelligence and advice, ensuring equitable outcomes through informed decision-making by elected members
  • Supporting Māori and community initiatives to enhance community wellbeing

 

This dynamic role offers diverse and exciting opportunities to make a difference to Auckland communities. This is a permanent opportunity, 40 hours per week, based in the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board rohe with requirements to travel around the communities you will be working with.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Community development expertise: Significant experience in community development best practices, especially in a place-based context, ideally with both grassroots experience as well as senior advisory or governance experience
  • Relationship management: Demonstrate the ability to establish, nurture, and strengthen complex relationships of high trust across diverse local communities
  • Political acumen: Display a high level of political judgement and sensitivity, to inspire the confidence of elected members.
  • Communication skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to listen, articulate, and influence appropriately for a wide range of contexts
  • Analytical and strategic thinking: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Salary Band H, we would be looking to appoint the successful applicant at a salary of between $100 - $118k, depending upon experience.

 

This is a hybrid position, with flexibility to work from a combination of the office, home & community sites.
