Working as casual team members at our lovely Glenfield Pools and Leisure Centre is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community.
We are looking for casual team members who will be predominantly working as lifeguards. Lifeguarding is the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and is essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities. Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.
As a casual team member, you are responsible for:
- Provide a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
- Educate and enforce pool rules
- Respond to any First Aid emergencies
- Ensure pool and surroundings are clean at all times
- Support customer service and other functions as required

This is an on-site position. Our centre opens from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm on weekends and 5:30 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays; the ability to work early night, late night, and weekends is crucial.

We are looking for strong swimmers of all ages, who are dedicated to helping others and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. As a lifeguard, you’ll need to stay alert, work well in a team, and provide excellent customer service.
You will also need to have a current First Aid Certificate and Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC); however, training will be provided. If you do not have a current First Aid Certificate or Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate, we will provide ALL training for you free of charge and pay you to attend the training. However, you must be available for the LG training from 22 Sept - 3 Oct 2025 (Weekdays 8:30am - 4pm) at West Wave and Auckland CBD.
The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is passing the swim test, which consists of:

Swim 200m in less than 6 minutes (Any stroke, or a mixture of strokes, can be used)

Swim 50m breaststroke

Swim 25m sidestroke
-
Retrieve objects from the deepest part of the pool (depth varies across centres)

Tread water for 5 minutes
