Parks & Community Facilities (PCF) is committed to making great places Aucklanders love while supporting a range of services including operational management, asset renewals and new asset development across a diverse built and open space portfolio. As kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council facilities, we play a vital role in providing fit-for-purpose assets and services that enhance the wellbeing of our communities.
As Area Operations Manager, you will be the primary point of contact for the Papakura and Manurewa Local Boards on all PCF matters relating to the management and delivery of the area's asset portfolio. You'll lead both operations and project delivery teams to oversee the planning, delivery, maintenance and renewal of a diverse portfolio of parks and community facilities, ensuring assets continue to meet the needs of Auckland's growing communities.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the development, maintenance and delivery of Local Board work programmes, providing effective oversight and management of assets and contracted services, and ensuring the provision of high-quality advice, information and value-for-money decision making to Local Boards.
As a senior leader within the Area Operations Unit, you will play a key role in shaping investment priorities, driving operational excellence, fostering strong Local Board relationships and enabling your team to deliver outstanding community outcomes.
Collaboration with other managers to ensure the effective use of resources and information, as well as consistent community and customer engagement, is critical to success in this role.
He kōrero mōu: About you
We're looking for an experienced people leader with a strong background in operations, asset management and project delivery.
You'll bring experience leading operational teams, managing service contracts and working within an asset management environment, ideally with exposure to facilities management and asset condition planning. You will also have experience developing and delivering complex work programmes and leading project delivery teams.
Alongside your technical and operational expertise, you have a proven ability to build high-performing teams, develop talent and create an engaged, accountable and customer-focused culture. You’ll demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with contractors, customers, elected members and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
As well as excellent attention to detail and financial acumen, you'll have a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, political environments, council practices, policy considerations and governance processes. You are a confident and articulate communicator who can influence, build trust and inspire collaboration across all levels of the organisation.
