Location: NZ, 1010

Company: Auckland Council

  • Shape learning and capability across a complex, high-impact environment
  • Partner with leaders to turlity needs into practical solutions
  • Design, facilitate and evaluate learning that makes a real difference

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

This is an opportunity to bring your Learning & Organisational Development expertise into a role where you can genuinely influence how people and teams perform.

As a Learning & Organisational Development Advisor within our Resilience & Infrastructure Directorate, you'll partner with leaders, subject matter experts and teams to understand what they need to succeed — then turn those needs into practical, engaging and effective L&OD solutions.

From learning needs analysis and instructional design through to facilitation, implementation and evaluation, you'll have ownership across the full learning lifecycle. You'll also contribute to wider organisational development initiatives, including leadership, talent, engagement, culture and performance.

This isn't a role where you'll simply deliver an existing training catalogue. You'll diagnose, design, challenge, advise and improve. You'll work across a diverse and complex environment, helping our people build the professional, technical and leadership capability they need to deliver for Auckland.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Partner with leaders to identify capability, learning and OD needs
  • Design and deliver engaging learning across multiple formats
  • Facilitate workshops, training and train-the-trainer sessions
  • Support leadership, culture, engagement and performance initiatives
  • Lead L&OD projects, evaluate impact and continually improve solutions

He kōrero mōu: About you

We're looking for an experienced L&OD professional who is equally comfortable advising a senior leader, facilitating a room, designing learning and getting into the detail to make something work.

Must haves:

  • 5+ years’ L&D experience, including strong learning design capability
  • Strong knowledge of modern L&OD and adult learning principles
  • End-to-end learning design, delivery, implementation and evaluation experience
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder influencing skills
  • A proactive, adaptable and delivery-focused approach with strong attention to detail

We're particularly interested in people who don't wait for someone else to tell them what the solution is. You'll need the curiosity to understand the problem, the confidence to challenge assumptions and the practical mindset to turn ideas into something people can actually use.

Nice to haves:

  • eLearning authoring experience
  • Leadership development experience
  • LMS administration and learning content curation
  • Project management and project delivery experience
  • Relevant degree and experience working in a large, complex organisation

We're looking for someone who can move comfortably between strategy and delivery.

You'll need to be able to sit with a leader, understand the business problem behind a capability gap, ask the right questions and recommend an approach; but then also be prepared to roll up your sleeves and design the workshop, develop the learning materials, facilitate the session and evaluate the outcome.

You'll bring professional curiosity, sound judgement and a continuous-improvement mindset, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.

You'll also be someone who genuinely enjoys working with people. Building relationships isn't an add-on to this role — it's central to being a trusted L&OD advisor.
