The Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board support team has an exciting and unique opportunity for a permanent full time Office Manager / Engagement Advisor to join the team. Ideally, we are looking for someone based on the Aotea / Great Barrier Island. However, we are open to applicants from elsewhere and can offer flexibility around working from both the local board office on Aotea / Great Barrier Island, and other Auckland Council office spaces.   

 

Reporting to the Local Area Manager, this key role provides essential day-to-day support and advice to the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board members and also is an integral part of the team. You will take the lead on all engagement activities while also ensuring smooth office operations.

 

You could expect to work on:
•    Supporting local board members with high-quality office management services such as purchasing, meeting coordination, stationary management and information technology.
•    Be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board office. 
•    Lead and deliver community engagement activities on behalf of both the local board and the council group. 
•    build strong relationships between the local board members, mana whenua, community groups and the wider community. 
•    Provide responses to residents, community groups and external organisations; escalating any complaints. 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

You will have experience in administration support, office management, or personal assistant roles, giving you the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

 

You will be someone who enjoys listening and engaging the community, and an to engage and build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders—including elected members, senior managers, and the public. Some political awareness and understand the role and responsibilities of the local board will be helpful as well. 

 

You will be professional, personable, and confident, with the determination to keep things running smoothly, while actively engaging the people and communities of Great Barrier Island. 

 

We are specifically looking for:
•    Someone who can integrate into a small, tight-knit and high-performing team who support the local board members.
•    A positive mindset who can cut-through and navigate working in a large, complex organisation or local/central government.
•    A can-do attitude to plan and deliver engagement activities across Aotea / Great Barrier Island. 

 

Preferably someone with local knowledge, a solid understanding of what’s important to people on Aotea / Great Barrier Island, and some existing relationships with both community groups and the public.

Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000k
