Gardener

 

Auckland Zoo's New Zealand precinct - Te Wao Nui - is a journey through six geographic zones and the flora and fauna of each. 

 

The horticulture team are responsible for maintaining plants and gardens within the surrounding grounds to a high standard, with a strong focus on health and safety.

 

Your primary responsibility in this role is to look after the maintenance of the planted landscape in the Zoo. This may include planted areas within the animal exhibits and all other areas in the Zoo.

 

This is a full time, 40 hours per week, permanent role.

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

You will have a keen interest in gardening and knowledge of indigenous and exotic flora.

 

Ideally you will have previous horticultural experience, including the use of a range of horticultural maintenance equipment, plant identification, plant husbandry, pest plant management, plant pest control, pruning and transplantation.

 

Qualifications preferred:

 

  • A full manual driver's license
  • A relevant qualification in horticulture or botany (or relevant experience)
  • An HT licence and spray applicators qualification

This is an active outdoors role so physical fitness and good health is essential along with the ability to follow instructions, work within a small team and have exemplary customer service skills.
