Auckland Council is embarking on a significant transformation through Project Galaxy—a programme designed to improve how we deliver services, support our people, and operate as a connected organisation. As our Education & Training Lead, you will play a pivotal role in preparing our people for this change by leading the design and delivery of engaging, effective learning experiences across the entire Council Group.
This is a fixed-term role until March 2026.We are also open to contractors if a fixed-term contract is not preferred.
In this role, you will lead all education and training activity across Project Galaxy, bringing together your specialist knowledge with the wider project team working across change management, business process, and communications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and executing business education and systems/process training
- Developing and overseeing pre-training business education materials
- Leading the creation of training modules to build awareness and capability
- Overseeing the development of end-user support content and documentation
- Coordinating the migration and readiness of learning content into the new HRIS system
- Developing key training deliverables and securing stakeholder approval, including:
- Comprehensive training strategy
- Detailed training plan outlining scope and timelines
- Training needs analysis to identify capability gaps
- Structured training curriculum tailored to impacted audiences
- Planning, managing, and overseeing the delivery of training across impacted groups
- Working closely with internal teams and business units to source resources, align messaging, and ensure seamless handover to BAU training teams
- Supporting post-go-live training and knowledge reinforcement as required
He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification, ideally in business, IT, learning & development, or a related field
- Minimum 9–10 years’ experience designing and delivering education and training in large, complex organisations
- Proven ability to lead training initiatives with strategic impact, financial awareness, and stakeholder engagement
- Experience in delivering training across major technology and business transformations
- Strong understanding of a wide range of learning methodologies, especially digital and blended formats
- Familiarity with training material development frameworks and HRIS implementations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex content and influence across all levels
- Personal resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage ambiguity
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to tight deadlines
Previous experience managing indirect teams or coordinating multiple training streams is also desirable.
