Recreation Team Member | Howick Leisure Centre

He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

This position is based at Howick Leisure Centre.

You will help us deliver an exciting range of community fitness and school holiday programmes. 

This role will see you working with school students and community groups across the Auckland region. 
In this frontline role, your responsibilities will include the following: 

  • delivering exceptional customer service to our customers and visitors 
  • supporting with the delivery of a variety of exciting programmes for children aged 5-12,  
  • helping the centre maintain a caring, fun, and safe fitness and leisure environment, 
  • helping centre management with administration and operational duties. 
  • supporting centre activities including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes. 

There are one full-time and two part-time positions with rosters that will include early mornings, late evenings, public holidays and weekends.  

The proposed shifts are:

  • Full time 
    • Modnay to Friday 
  • 13-hours (Gymnastics Coaching & Afterschool programme) 
    • Tuesday 3:00pm - 6:00pm & Wednesday 3:00pm - 6:00pm & other shifts are netiogable  
  • 6-hour (Basketball Referee & Afterschool coaching) 
    • Monday 6:00pm - 10:00pm & Thursday or Friday after-school

but it is subject to change according to the roster and the need of the centre.

You will already be passionate about sports and recreation and be ready to step into a frontline customer service role. 


You will also be: 

  • responsible when it comes to working with children. (While previous experience working with children is beneficial, it is not essential) 
  • have a flexible approach and be able to use your initiative to facilitate suitable programmes for kids.  
  • be an enthusiastic team player 
  • have a positive attitude and infectious energy 
  • understand health and safety 
  • Having experience with Basketball and/or Gymnastics, would be advantageous in this role. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.
  • You will need a First Aid Certificate, however, we will help you attain this if you do not have one already.

Pay rate: starting $23.65
