Casual Team Member - Lifeguard | Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre

 

Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities. Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.

 

As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:

  • Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.
  • Educating and enforcing pool rules.
  • Responding to any First Aid emergencies.
  • Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean.

 

We offer flexible, casual work which is rostered over a 7-day roster period, flexibility in your availability will be ideal! 

These roles primarily support aquatics. However, candidates should be flexible in assisting with administrative tasks and occasional shift cover for Customer Support and Fitness teams when needed.



If you do not have a PLPC, you will be required to attend the following training dates at our  West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre, Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm: Dec 1 to Dec 12, 2025


He kōrero mōu: About you

 

We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others. To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).

 

The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test.  Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:

  • Swim 200m in under 6 minutes. 
  • Swim 25m sidestroke.
  • Swim 50m breaststroke.
  • Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool. 
  • Tread water for 5 minutes

We are looking for people of all ages who are strong swimmers, with flexibility to work multiple days.

Ideally, you will have a current PLPC Certification – we can help you obtain this through training if you don’t currently have this.

 

To become a lifeguard, you'll need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate and a First Aid certificate. Don't worry, if you're a suitable candidate, we'll provide you with the necessary training at no cost. 

 

In addition to your swimming skills, we're looking for individuals with proven administration and communication skills, a track record of providing outstanding customer service, and excellent maturity and reliability.
