Auckland Council has an exciting Change Manager opportunity in the Group Shared Services (GSS) Directorate. This is a transformational role where you will be integral in developing and implementing change strategies for a large HRIS and Payroll implementation project, ensuring the successful adoption and sustained utilisation of new business models, processes, and technologies across the Auckland Council Group.
In this role, you will collaborate with key stakeholders at all levels to identify impacts, manage resistance, and ensure smooth transitions to new ways of working. Your expertise will be critical in shaping the change processes, supporting the team through the journey, and embedding new practices that align with Auckland Council's broader goals.
He kōrero mōu: About You
We are looking for a dynamic Change Manager who will lead and inspire transformation across our organisation. You’ll design and implement strategies that drive employee adoption, minimize resistance, and ensure alignment with our programme goals. As a key driver of change, you’ll lead initiatives in communications, training, and support, while building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels to foster buy-in and enthusiasm for change. You'll assess impact, readiness, and identify gaps, ensuring a seamless transition to new ways of working. You'll track progress and adjust strategies as needed, continually improving and staying ahead with the latest change management best practices. With your commercial acumen and leadership, you'll lead cross-functional teams, motivating them towards successful outcomes. Your strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, combined with your ability to stay resilient and adaptable under pressure, will enable you to effectively collaborate and make data-driven decisions that benefit both the organisation and its people.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Extensive experience in Change Management or Business Transformation within large, complex environments.
- Strong understanding of strategic impact and financial acumen.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholder pressures and expectations effectively.
- Expertise in change planning, reporting, and risk management.
- Understand the intent behind the change activities and align them with business objectives
- Navigate the complexities of both line and matrix management of change, including communications and training delivery
- Demonstrate an adaptable and proactive approach while tailoring your communication and methods to the needs of different audiences
Additionally, we are looking for someone who:
- Has the ability to pronounce and use basic te reo Māori in conversations, emails, and meetings
- Demonstrates and values tikanga Māori (cultural practices) when appropriate
- Is recognised for innovative, people-centric, and benefits-focused change planning and delivery
