He angitūtanga: The opportunity:

We have an excellent one-year fixed term opportunity for the Whānau Learning Specialist role within the Whānau Learning team, based in the Central City. This position is designed to cover parental leave and will run from 20 April 2026 to 25 May 2027. It is a full-time role, offering 40 hours of engaging work each week!        

The selected candidate will play a crucial role in establishing and nurturing effective relationships with community libraries, serving as an expert advisor and supporter of the local delivery of regional literacy and learning initiatives.

Collaborative efforts with the two other Whānau Learning Specialists and relevant teams are essential to align activities, share insights, and develop a cohesive programme to increase participation in lifelong learning programmes at Auckland Council Libraries.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • experience in the implementation of learning and literacy support programmes for intergenerational engagement.
  • proficiency in establishing and cultivating robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and community organisations.
  • strategic thinking capability, adhering to best practices in pedagogy and adult learning theory.
  • a creative, collaborative, and effective working style that promotes teamwork.
  • outstanding verbal and written communication skills to convey information to diverse audiences.
  • an analytical mindset with a focus on data and insights to drive continuous improvements.
  • a strong passion for learning and literacy within the public library context.
  • well-developed self-awareness and a growth-oriented mindset.

This is a Band G full-time role, we expect to appoint the successful applicant at a salary of between $88-$104K depending on skills & experience.
