Auckland Council is pleased to have an opportunity to welcome a new chair to the Watercare Services Limited Board in 2024. 

Your leadership and guidance will help us continue to deliver high-quality water services for Tāmaki Makaurau. At the same time, you will support the transition of Watercare as the council works with the government to ensure sustainable funding and investment into Auckland’s water services. 

You will act with personal integrity and moral leadership with wise and thorough decision-making. Board members are accountable and responsive to both Auckland Council and the people of Auckland, and they must demonstrate a commitment to a public sector ethos. 


It will also be critical that you uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and promote outcomes for Māori, as well as supporting collaboration across the Council group. 

He kōrero mōu: About you


You will need to have proven and extensive experience as a chair of large-scale, complex organisations, ideally from within political environments and highly regulated industries. 


We are looking for people with deep professional experience in the following areas:

  • Utilities industry (ideally water and wastewater)
  • Track record of leading an organisation through change
  • Delivery of significant infrastructure and capital programmes and management of a major asset portfolio
  • Capital raising and capital market portfolio experience will be useful


You will demonstrate a commitment to integrate council’s climate action plans into the strategies and operations of the council-controlled organisations, collaborating across the Council family. You will drive an appropriate leadership and cultural response to deliver the required outcomes (and/or deliver on targets as identified), through inclusive and adaptive leadership to harness the benefits of diversity.
