Auckland Council’s Waste Solutions department is hiring a WasteWise Coordinator to join our Community WasteWise Team in a permanent, full-time role.

 

In this position, you’ll lead and support a team of 6x WasteWise Advisors, coordinating their daily outreach and engagement activities. Your work will help empower Auckland’s communities to make the most of Council waste services through education, collaboration, and hands-on support.

You’ll play a key role in building capability across our network of community partners, helping them to deliver effective waste solutions in their own spaces. We especially value diverse communities and speakers of languages other than English, reflecting the rich cultural landscape of Tāmaki Makaurau.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

 

 

In this role, you’ll:

  • Develop a work programme and calendar of engagement activities for a team of 6 WasteWise Advisors.
  • Manage team schedules and coordinate outreach activities.
  • Act as 2IC to the Team Leader, supporting operational delivery and team coordination.
  • Collaborate with community partners, environmental organisations, community groups, and mana whenua.
  • Create resources, manage small contracts, and lead teaching sessions to build waste literacy.

 

 

He kōrero mōu | About you

 

 

We’re looking for a confident and highly organised individual with experience in community engagement and team management. This is a leadership role that requires someone who can take initiative, make decisions, manage competing priorities and excellent time management. You’ll also act as second-in-charge (2IC) to the Team Leader.

 

 

You’ll bring:

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role, or equivalent gained through relevant experience, ideally with a tertiary qualification in environmental studies, education, or community development.
  • Strong organisational and scheduling skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and support a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with high attention to detail.
  • Capability with the MS Office Suite, and experience in database management and reporting.
  • A valid, clean full NZ driver’s licence.
