He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council's Solid Waste unit manages the region's kerbside domestic refuse, recycling, hazardous and inorganic waste. The unit is also responsible for the management of transfer stations, the development and delivery of waste minimisation, and cleaner production initiatives.

We are looking for an individual to join our Henderson team based at the Waitakere Refuse Transfer Station. You will be responsible for the transfer of waste to landfills along with diverting reusable items and recycling materials from the waste stream and managing customers at the different drop-off areas. There is a strong focus on Health and Safety ensuring staff and customers are kept safe.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You'll have a great attitude, take pride in the work you do, understand those recycling counts, and really does make a difference to our environment. If you have an approved handler certificate, specifically in chemical handling, then that is a bonus - if you don't, then that's ok as we're happy to put you through this. Given our Health and Safety focus, it'll be important that you quickly learn our procedures around the handling and storage of hazardous materials and use your initiative to uphold our high standards.

You will need to have good energy levels and be physically fit - a medical assessment may be required as part of the selection process. In addition, you'll need experience in a manual industry (construction, landscaping, or similar), including operating machinery, excellent customer service skills, and a full NZ driver's licence, Class 1 as a minimum. Due to the nature of this role, we will also need you to have your F, W, and T endorsements. Experience with front-end loaders or excavators is highly regarded for this role. This role is safety-sensitive and requires pre-employment drug testing.

As this is a position that works on a roster system, you will be expected to be able to work at least one-weekend shift.

Along with the benefits that come with being part of Auckland's largest employer, you will be part of a passionate and committed team and play an instrumental role in helping communities see the benefits of waste minimisation. We are also committed to your career growth and can support you to achieve them be it in admin, finance, operational, or management.
