We are currently seeking a part-time Veterinary Records Assistant, as a valued member of the Veterinary Services Department at Auckland Zoo, which is located inside Auckland Zoo’s New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine. The veterinary team of 10+ zoo professionals work collaboratively to deliver positive Conservation Medicine outcomes for the zoo and for external stakeholders.
You will positively contribute to the zoo’s mission in the following core areas of responsibility:
- Administration of the veterinary records databases, ensuring they are kept up-to-date, accurate and easily accessible to all users. This is an essential part of providing a high level of veterinary care to patients.
- Administration of stored veterinary samples and management of the associated databases. This is a vital contribution to the preventative medicine and evidence-based medicine that the department provides to both internal and external clients
- General veterinary administrative duties which include (but are not exclusive to) the maintenance of department inventories, compilation of reports, briefing documents, meeting minutes, and other identified priority support activities.
This role involves working a minimum of 16-hours per week, typically two consecutive days in a normal working week (Monday-Friday). It is not anticipated that this position would work weekends or public holidays.

As a valued member of the Veterinary Services Department you will work closely with the other members of the veterinary team and the rest of the Animal Care & Conservation department to deliver excellent levels of patient care.
You will be dedicated, empathetic, resilient and remain solution-focused. As a skilled communicator, you will work well within the supportive and progressive team environment within the department.
Core Requirements
- Eligible to work in New Zealand
- Exceptional attention to detail, with strong time-management and personal organisation
- Flexibility and adaptability when working with variable daily work requirements
- Ability to work effectively within a team and also to work independently when required
- Logical and solution-focused approach.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Interest or experience with zoo, veterinary and/or other medical fields is desirable but not essential
- Familiarity with Z.I.M.S. cloud-based database, or other medical databases is an advantage
- Driving licence
