We are currently seeking an experienced Vet Nurse to provide clinical zoo/wildlife veterinary expertise as a valued member of the Veterinary Services Department at Auckland Zoo, which is located inside Auckland Zoo’s New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine. The team includes manager, two veterinarians, one veterinary resident, clinical coordinator and two veterinary nurses to provide exceptional veterinary service to Auckland Zoo. You will be expected to be highly skilled and motivated, to assist the New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine in moving forward. We require a minimum of five years’ experience in veterinary nursing with a keen and demonstrated focus on anaesthesia and clinical nursing.

As an experienced member of the Veterinary Services Department you will work closely with the other members of the veterinary team and the rest of the Animal Care & Conservation department to deliver excellent levels of patient care.   You will be knowledgeable, empathetic, resilient and remain solution focussed. As a skilled communicator, you will work well within the supportive and progressive team environment within the department and be able to disseminate knowledge effectively to a wide range of stakeholders.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Veterinary Nursing certificate
  • Minimum of 3-5 years recent full-time zoo veterinary nursing experience, including significant clinical and anaesthetic monitoring experience
  • Zoo animal husbandry experience
  • Previous experience with native and exotic species is essential.
  • Confident in animal handling
  • High level of organisational and time management skills

This is a part time position, working 20-hours per week working on an evenly shared roster as part of a team of nurses and veterinarians, who collectively provide 7-day per week on-site cover at Auckland Zoo (including weekends, public holidays and occasional out of hours work).
