Team Manager - BWOF & CCC

He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

Auckland Council’s Building Consents Department has an exciting opportunity for a Manager BWOF & CCC within our Field Surveying team. In this pivotal leadership role, you’ll guide the strategic delivery of Building Warrant of Fitness and Code Compliance Certificate processes across the region, ensuring they are timely, high quality, and fully aligned with the Building Act, Local Government Act, and related legislation.

You’ll shape the direction of these critical services, lead a high performing team, and champion continuous improvement and innovation across our building regulatory functions. This is a role where your leadership will directly influence customer experience, operational consistency, and the confidence Aucklanders have in our built environment.

Day‑to‑day you could expect to work on:

• Motivating and developing your team through coaching, performance reviews, and capability growth
• Managing work programmes to meet customer needs, budgets, and organisational targets
• Driving policy and process improvements using proven change leadership approaches
• Providing strategic direction to technical specialists in CCC and BWOF
• Building strong stakeholder relationships with internal teams, industry partners, and customers
• Monitoring and sustaining service delivery including policy and procedure updates
• Applying risk management to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable outcomes

This role requires experience in similar building regulatory leadership roles, with a deep understanding of building legislation, consent processes, and the integrated nature of council service delivery. You’ll be a motivating leader someone who sets the pace, inspires confidence, and brings people together to deliver results that matter for Auckland.

You’ll be comfortable making technical & strategical decisions, guiding others through change, and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and customer focus. Your communication skills will help you connect with communities, peers, and partners, and your growth mindset will ensure your team thrives.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

• Building Act 2004, Building Code, as well as Building Consent processes and local authority procedures
• Technical competency at Res 3 & Com 3 under the National Competency Framework
• Extensive experience leading large teams, with a strong focus on coaching, capability growth, and performance development
• Managing complex work programmes and delivering high quality regulatory services
• Extensive and demonstratable change leadership in operational and/ or regulatory environments
• Strong numerical capability with solid systems proficiency and strong process orientation

This role has a remuneration range of $144,288 - $160,000 (Based on skillset and experience)

Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
