He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council's Building Consents provide local and regional building consenting services to ensure Auckland has safe and sustainable buildings.

We have a prime opportunity for an individual with strong proven leadership skills and with outstanding people management/performance management experience. Someone who can effectively lead, manage and drive the overall business values and core deliverables.

You will lead and support a team of nine Regulatory Support Officers responsible for the end‑to‑end administrative processing of CCC and CPU applications. A key part of the role is driving consistent delivery against agreed service levels and supporting the department’s statutory performance requirements, including maintaining strong billable output across the team.

A central focus is building capability across the team, working closely with Senior Regulatory Support Officers to coordinate training, coaching, and upskilling initiatives that strengthen workforce capacity and enable confident, end‑to‑end processing across a broader range of functions.

As a Team Leader Regulatory Support, you would be required to:

  • Ensure compliance with Territorial Authority and Building Consent Authority accreditation requirements, including adherence to BCA policies, procedures, and relevant bylaws
  • Providing accurate advice and making decisions in alignment with regulatory processes, relevant legislation, and internal policies and procedures
  • Maintaining and monitoring the quality of end-to-end processes through audits, reviews, and team competencies
  • Promoting and championing continuous improvement across business processes and systems to support the department’s programme of work
  • Leading team performance management, including monitoring performance, conducting reviews, and supporting staff development

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are someone who is resilient with sound experience in the regulatory field with a strong focus on customer-centric delivery and providing first-rate customer service.

You will be able to view the business as an integrated whole, rather than a separate discipline and apply this thinking to problem-solving and business improvement. You enjoy working in a collaborative team environment and have a passion for building a future for Auckland.

To be successful in this role, you will have at least 7 years of experience in a business administration, Customer Services, or Regulatory environment, with 3 to 4 years having been in a leadership capacity. A relevant qualification in business administration/ Reg 18 or similar area would be an advantage. Your ability to recognise problems, identify the cause and develop and implement solutions will be the key to this role. Previous demonstrated experience in process improvement and translation of policy into the operational process would also be advantageous for this role.
