He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are looking for a passionate and experienced people leader to join our dedicated leadership team in the Central City Hub. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity leading a team of 12-15 based in the Auckland Central City Library – Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero.
Day to day you and your team will be responsible for:
- Serving Central City resident and visitor requests in a busy and dynamic work environment.
- Ensuring staff have the knowledge and competency to deliver excellent frontline library and council services.
- Working alongside local partners, communities and service providers supporting equitable access.
- Liaising with Iwi and wider council whānau to strengthen strategic outcomes.
- Planning, promoting, evaluating and reporting on the services provided.
- Supporting the design and implementation of service improvement initiatives.

Ensures consistently excellent service experiences that reflect deep knowledge of community needs and Auckland Council services. - Foster a positive, inclusive and improvement-focused team culture
Creates an environment where staff collaborate to design and deliver continuous customer service improvements aligned with tikanga and community values. - Strengthen librarianship capability and passion for services
Ensures ongoing development of librarianship skills and reader services expertise across teams, promoting a strong professional practice. - Build team resilience and capability in a dynamic environment
Ensures staff are confident, well-trained, and supported to respond effectively to customer needs in a busy, complex and fast-paced setting.

We’re looking for someone who will be able to hit the ground running. You will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Leadership and Team Development: Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team.
- Librarianship and Customer Services: Experience working within a public library environment supporting teams to learn, build knowledge and capability in our mahi with a focus on reader services, council services and community engagement.
- Collaboration and Business Improvement: Working alongside teams and connecting with subject matter experts to ensure challenges are resolved in a constructive, collaborative and timely manner and supporting business improvement solutions.
- Communication and Relationship Management: Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to manage relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
