Auckland Council’s Licensing & Environmental Health department has an opportunity for a Team Leader – Environmental Health - Noise within our dedicated Environmental Health team.

 

This is a leadership role where you’ll guide and inspire a team focused on noise management, ensuring Aucklanders enjoy healthier, safer, and more liveable communities. You’ll be responsible for turning strategic objectives into operational outcomes, managing contractors, and providing expert advice across complex environmental health and noise issues.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

 

  • Overseeing the management of the noise management contract and ensuring KPIs are met
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to achieve high performance
  • Responding to escalated matters with strong technical knowledge of noise legislation and investigation techniques
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders across Council, agencies, and communities
  • Supporting the Manager Specialist Operations in achieving best practice
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives and embedding quality management systems such as ISO17020

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role requires experience in similar environmental health leadership roles, with a sound understanding of noise management processes and relevant legislation. You’ll be a confident leader who can inspire and empower others, while also being highly organised and outcomes driven.

 

You’ll bring strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to balance operational management with strategic thinking. Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about building a better Auckland through effective environmental health practices.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with:

 

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health (or equivalent, recognised under the Environmental Health Officers Qualifications Regulations 1993)
  • At least 7 years’ experience in environmental health, including team leadership and quality management
  • Contemporary working knowledge of the Auckland Unitary Plan, Resource Management Act 1991, Health Act, bylaws, and relevant NZ/international standards
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and positively influence others
  • Strong stakeholder and contractor management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation abilities
  • Experience implementing and leading quality management systems

The remuneration range for this role is $120,000 – $127,000 (Based on skills & experience)

 

Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered
