Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is searching for high-calibre candidates to join the Board of Tāmaki Redevelopment Company Ltd (TRC).  

TRC is jointly owned by the Crown and Auckland Council. It is a first-of-its kind urban regeneration programme in New Zealand and aims to transform Tāmaki by working alongside the community and its partners. TRC’s contribution to the Government’s commitment to address Auckland’s housing challenges is unique.  

The Tāmaki Regeneration Programme will see the majority of the existing state houses replaced with warm, dry state houses, alongside affordable and private market homes by 2040. 

This will build thriving communities to enhance wellbeing for Tāmaki whānau.

The Board appoints and oversees the performance of the Chief Executive and empowers the Chief Executive and others to implement the Board’s policies.  

The Minister of Housing is committed to considering candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and competencies. This includes appropriate representation, diversity and inclusivity. Tāmaki has a significant Māori and Pasifika population, it is important that the Board collectively possess a deep experience and understanding of relevant Māori and Pacific aspirations.

We are interested in hearing from candidates who would contribute some of the following skillsets and qualities: 

  • Previous or current involvement in the Tāmaki community  
  • Experience in governance 
  • Understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi   
  • Understanding of equity issues for Māori and Pacific populations  
  • Understanding of regeneration including development, social transformation, economic stimulation and placemaking 
  • Iwi/Māori relationships  
  • Pasifika relationships  
  • Finance, audit, risk or assurance experience 
  • Good understanding of public accountability 
  • Financial and commercial acumen
  • Tenancy management experience
  • Prior experience in Chair roles
