He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

As a Structural Engineer, your role is critical in overseeing the technical processing and provision of advice for building and Resource consent applications. You will be tasked with offering expert structural and geotechnical engineering assessments within designated timeframes, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements such as the Building Act and Local Government Act. Collaborating closely with building control staff, you will coordinate project management efforts to maintain a high standard of input, meeting all regulatory obligations and engineering standards. Additionally, your responsibilities extend to overseeing risk management processes, including the recording and assessment of natural hazards, and making decisions regarding hazard notices.

 

In operational delivery, your focus will be on ensuring that the proposed building and development work strictly adheres to regulatory and safety legislation. This includes participating in pre-application meetings, meticulously maintaining accurate consent databases, and promptly addressing any arising issues to minimize processing delays.

 

Furthermore, you will assist team leaders on specific projects, and diligently manage escalated customer complaints and incidents with a focus on swift resolution and adherence to professional standards. Rigorous risk management practices will be integral to your approach, with any identified risks promptly reported and recorded for appropriate mitigation measures.

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

Candidates should hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with Structural Engineering as a major, recognized by IPENZ, along with a thorough understanding of pertinent New Zealand legislation, Building Regulations, and the New Zealand Building Code. While optional, holding a CPEng (New Zealand) or MIPENZ accreditation in Structural Engineering as the practice area is advantageous. Additionally, a valid New Zealand driver's license is required.

 

In terms of experience, candidates should have a minimum of 5 years' experience in Structural Engineering, with at least 3 years dedicated to structural engineering designs for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings in New Zealand. Experience in conducting structural design peer reviews to ensure compliance with the New Zealand Building Code is desirable. Candidates with CPEng will be preferred.
