He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As part of the Long-term Plan, we are progressing a new investment approach that is less reliant on council assets and focuses more on alternative ways of providing community services. At the same time, Auckland’s 21 local boards have been allocated increased decision-making responsibilities for local community services and assets.

In response, we have changed our approach to how we provide advice to elected members through creating a Centre of Excellence for the Customer and Community Services (C&CS) Directorate’s advisory functions.

Our goal is to further improve the quality and integration of advice, better support the directorate with Long-term Plan, Local Board Plans and budget implementation, and support the successful implementation of the increased local board decision-making.

Through building cross-departmental relationships, you’ll lead the development and integration of the work programme process for the directorate with a portfolio of local boards. You will also develop and deliver quality advice to elected members which supports them with their decision-making responsibilities.

Working with teams that deliver community services and look after our community facilities, this position offers a unique opportunity for you to learn about the operational aspects of the directorate and Auckland Council, while fine tuning your political acumen.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll bring a blend of experience in working with elected members or in a relationship management role, along with experience in the policy or advisory space. As part of that experience, you’ll be able to talk to how you bring together and provide complex and integrated advice to senior decision-makers.

You’ll have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be comfortable dealing with all levels, the ability to build and maintain great relationships and partnerships, and project management experience.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

Take your passion for creating strong, connected communities to the next level. If you are interested in an influential role where you will be part of a team that makes a difference and enhances outcomes for Auckland's diverse communities then this is the opportunity.

If you can demonstrate these qualities and this sounds like your next career move, please apply. Tell us why you’re interested and apply via the link.

There may be times where you’ll need to work after hours to attend local board meetings if required to present advice.
