He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Work with elected members and business partners across multiple channels to tell great council stories at the local level and help create an Auckland we can all be proud of

If you love local storytelling, Auckland Council needs your help to make a difference in some of the many communities and neighbourhoods across the region. Our Local Communications team works with elected members, staff and other key stakeholders to make Auckland Council’s stories matter to people where they live, work and play. We currently have an Auckland Central based opportunity for a confident, tenacious and enthusiastic communication professional.

He kōrero mōu: About you

Ideally, you will have a background in media, communications or PR.

Experience is important, but we are equally interested in your style, your vision and ability to tell a story in a way that helps grow trust and confidence in Council’s exciting plans, projects and initiatives and meets the key goals of our communications strategy:

  • Increasing recognition of the good things council does, that are not well understood by Aucklanders
  • Growing pride in Auckland, connected to the things we do.

You will know whether to use local media, Facebook or our own online and print news channels alongside how to measure success and use the results to drive improvements in future. It goes without saying that you are a great team player with proven initiative, drive, resilience and the ability to work to tight deadlines while deftly balancing competing priorities. Finally, you will work toward becoming a trusted communications advisor to elected members and business partners, so political acumen and sound judgement are vital.

This is a fast-paced and exciting role. Deadlines, pressure and competing priorities all come with the job. Experience working in a large and diverse team is highly desirable.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

These are roles with a level of diversity and complexity you won’t find very often, with the chance to engage with and support key decision-makers on a daily basis. Normal office hours apply generally, but some flexibility is required around meetings or events. Our salaries are competitive and there are plenty of opportunities for personal growth and to be part of writing and recording Auckland’s story.

If you are high performing and passionate, then join us in making a positive impact on Auckland's future. Apply today (telling us your story and why you are interested in and right for this opportunity) by cover letter along with your CV.
