Auckland Council's Corporate Property team is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex capital works and renewal projects across our corporate property portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing client-side project delivery team, working alongside experienced property professionals to shape the workplaces that support Auckland Council's people who serve our community.
In this role, you'll take ownership of projects from initiation and business case development through to procurement, construction, completion and benefits realisation. You’ll be responsible for bringing together internal teams, consultants and contractors to deliver projects that achieve agreed outcomes, while keeping a close eye on programme, budget, quality, risk and health and safety.
You’ll need to be comfortable operating in a complex environment, balancing competing priorities and making sound decisions when things don't always go to plan. From managing commercial arrangements and negotiating with contractors to keeping stakeholders informed and ensuring projects are financially well controlled, you'll play a key role in delivering value for Auckland Council.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in getting things done properly; a practical, commercially astute project leader who can bring people together, work through challenges and maintain momentum right through to delivery.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You're an established project management professional with a strong track record of delivering complex capital works projects. You bring the confidence to lead projects independently, the commercial awareness to manage significant budgets and contracts, and the relationship skills to get the best out of a wide range of stakeholders.
Must-haves:
- 8+ years' experience delivering commercial office capital works and renewals, including complex, multi-million-dollar projects.
- Proven end-to-end project management capability, from business case development and procurement through to delivery and benefits realisation.
- Strong commercial and financial management skills, including budget control, procurement and contractor/consultant management.
- Sound knowledge of construction health and safety, risk management and relevant legislation.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence others, navigate ambiguity and drive successful outcomes.
- A current New Zealand driver's licence.
Nice-to-haves:
- A degree or relevant technical tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, architecture or a related discipline.
- A recognised project or programme management qualification, such as PRINCE2, PMP, CAPM, C3PM or equivalent.
- Experience delivering projects under NZS 3910:2023 construction contracts.
- Experience using SAP and Sentient.
- Professional body registration.
Above all, you'll bring a strong sense of personal ownership and accountability.
You're someone who can see the bigger picture while staying across the detail, identify opportunities to improve how things are done and consistently deliver outcomes.
