He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Are you looking for a change of direction, quality training and career opportunities, a collaborative workplace where you can make a difference? If so, why not join Auckland Council, the largest territorial authority in Australasia.

Our Stormwater, Wastewater and Industrial & Trade Activities team is part of the Specialist Unit in the Planning and Resource Consents Department. This multidisciplinary team provides specialist advice on a wide range of development projects, from major subdivisions, residential, commercial, and industrial developments to regional and nationally significant infrastructure projects. We cover the entire Auckland region and are passionate about preventing and minimising adverse environmental and health effects whilst promoting sustainable development in a fast-growing city. The team is based in the CBD but offers flexible working arrangements.

The Senior Wastewater Specialist will be working with a wide range of customers across the region, providing technical input to our resource consenting, compliance and building consenting teams. A major focus of this role will be in relation to assessing the effects of the discharge of wastewater to land and/or water including works in and around freshwater bodies (such as lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands).

There will be support and encouragement to upskill so that you can provide advice on multiple subject areas covered by the team. You will be expected to work with external and internal customers to seek the best practical environmental outcomes using a proactive and solution-driven approach. You must be competent in critically evaluating complex proposals in consent applications.
