He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Policy department has an opportunity for a Senior Strategist to join the Natural Environment Strategy (NES) team.
This is a key role for the Council and will focus on providing high quality and influential strategic advice to internal and external decision-makers across environmental domains. Use your strategy and policy skills and environmental knowledge across a wide breadth of topics.
You could expect to work on:
- determining how we manage our natural environment over the longer term and how to get there in an integrated way
- forming and translating policy positions for environmental outcomes across the Council
- promoting resilience to natural hazards through improved recognition of nature-based solutions within council’s policy, regulatory and non-regulatory programmes
- spatial representation of natural environmental issues and nature-based solutions and how the use of geospatial tools supports strategic approaches to achieving effective and durable outcomes
- evaluating central and local government legislative and operational proposals against organisational and community / sector expectations for environmental management
He kōrero mōu: About you
This role requires experience in the natural environment policy and strategic space, where environmental challenges and integration with other policy drivers are often seen as challenges, and require strategic and tactical thinking to achieve better outcomes.
We are looking for people who come from technical disciplines such as policy development, environmental legislation or spatial planning frameworks, with a focus on environmental resilience across land, water and coastal.
We will be looking for specific capabilities and experience with the key role requirements:
- sound understanding of environmental issues in the Auckland context, given other policy drivers (such as productivity and growth, and land use in general)
- strategic thinking and analysis and evaluation techniques
- ability to produce quality written reports and other collateral
- influential approaches for resource management where non-regulatory options will play a significant role
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- geospatial experience and a practical understanding and use of geospatial tools
