  • Turn complex land use decisions and processes into clear, accessible and meaningful information
  • Fixed-term full-time role to 24 December 2027

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

The storm affected land (SAL) programme is one of the largest hazard-related land acquisitions in New Zealand’s history, with over 1,000 properties being acquired by Auckland Council following the severe weather events of 2023.

As the Senior Stakeholder Liaison, you’ll be embedded within the team responsible for making decisions about the future of the properties. The programme sits within Auckland Council's Property department, and you'll work closely with property, legal and case management specialists day to day.

You will be responsible for developing and leading stakeholder engagement approaches, and ensuring complex, technical, legal and policy decisions are translated into clear, consistent and accessible information for stakeholders, including neighbours, communities and elected members.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining trust, managing reputational risk and supporting timely programme delivery across the SAL portfolio.

You will:

  • Develop and deliver proactive communications and engagement plans in support of the SAL programme
  • Produce high-quality communications products, tailored to different channels and audiences
  • Act as a trusted advisor to SAL leadership on stakeholder sentiment, emerging risks and escalation responses
  • Collaborate across the council on place-based priority projects, specifically Auckland Emergency Management and Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience

He kōrero mōu: About you

You've got solid experience developing integrated stakeholder engagement strategies within the public sector, recovery or infrastructure programmes. You're comfortable working in complex environments where information changes and people are under pressure.

You write well for different audiences and can turn technical content into accessible information for use across different formats, channels and audiences.

You pick up on risks early, can manage competing priorities without losing the thread, and build effective relationships across teams with ease. You're also comfortable providing advice to senior leaders and using good judgement on when and how to escalate.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business or related discipline
  • 7+ years’ experience in communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven experience operating as a trusted business partner to senior leaders
  • Demonstrated success developing high-quality content
  • Strong influencing, relationship-building and risk management capability

Please note: This is a Fixed-term full-time role to 24 December 2027
