He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Community Facilities (CF) is committed to making great places Aucklanders love while also undertaking asset management and renewals of existing structures and open areas. Committed to a lifecycle approach to asset management, we work to build, maintain and renew our world class community buildings and public spaces including parks, walkways, libraries and leisure centres.

As kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council facilities, we play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of our communities while also delivering strategically significant programmes.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor/Cost Estimator, you will be responsible for checking and providing accurate cost estimates for new capital and renewals projects throughout the delivery stages. This includes the evaluation of contract claims and variations. You will work with CF’s key stakeholder business owners in the early options-assessment stage to ensure that cost estimates provided for future projects are well defined, robust and sufficient for inclusion in the Long Term and Annual Plans. You will also be called upon to provide expert advice as part of a larger team on highly complex projects under the lead of a project manager.

You will also determine the scope of internal audit to make sure the performance of council’s suppliers is measured and monitored, to ensure that council is provided with high quality services at good value for money.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll have a good working knowledge of cost estimation in the New Zealand construction industry, and along with experience preparing Schedules of Quantities & Prices for various assets, an understanding of procurement, contracts and the evaluation of contractual claims.

Alongside strong relationship management skills and the agility to work cross functionally across the unit and other council departments, you will have the ability to advise on many diverse projects at any one time. It should go without saying that you have a solid understanding of health and safety legislation and practices.

A degree in a relevant field such as quantity surveying, engineering, construction and architecture will be required, combined with relevant technical experience in capital works and/or renewals programmes.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

We will offer you a career enhancing opportunity, competitive remuneration and to be part of Auckland’s meaningful history. At the forefront of our community development, you will be given the opportunity to be part of a team that is dynamic and passionate about what CF does. You will play a crucial role, not only in CF but across Auckland Council. Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, you will have some flexibility with how those hours are set.

If you feel you can make a difference and are passionate about Auckland and the things we do, and would like the chance to make tangible and visible improvements to our environment, then join us. Apply today (telling us why you are interested in and right for this opportunity) by cover letter along with your CV.

You will be required to have a valid NZ driver's licence due to the nature of the position where you will be required to regularly travel to various Community Facility sites across the Auckland region.

This role is deemed safety sensitive and, in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.
