He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

 

Auckland Council’s Engineering, Assets and Technical Advisory department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Natural Hazards specialist to join the Natural Hazards team.  

 

This is a critical role focused on providing expert advice on natural hazards to enable greater resilience and reduce risks for Auckland Council and the community. You will support council-wide initiatives to manage natural hazard risks and integrate climate change considerations into risk management where relevant.  

 

As the Senior Natural Hazards Specialist, you will be responsible for: 

 

  • leading and coordinating natural hazard risk management actions across the council group, addressing knowledge gaps 
  • collaborating with internal teams and academic partners to inform long-term planning 
  • providing technical assessments and advice on natural hazard issues 
  • developing and maintaining natural hazard datasets and supporting their use in council activities 

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you 

 

This role requires experience in the Natural Hazard and Risk Management space. You have experience in similar roles within large, complex or political organisations. 

 

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements: 

 

  • relevant tertiary qualification in science, natural hazards, geology, or a related discipline 
  • strong scientific and analytical rigour with demonstrated applied experience in hazard and risk assessments 
  • sound knowledge of natural hazards risks management and disaster risk reduction strategies 
  • knowledge of Auckland’s natural hazard-scape and relevant legislation  
  • an understanding and passion for applying te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to natural hazards risk management

This role has a remuneration range of $105,000 to $125,000

Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered
