He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

This is a 9-month Fixed Term Employment opportunity for a specific project, with the possibility of a further 12-month extension.

 

Auckland Council has responsibilities to recognise and protect the relationship of Māori and their culture and traditions with their ancestral lands, water, sites, wāhi tapu and other taonga, as well as wider protection of historic heritage.  Council has a high performing team within the Heritage Unit, whose focus is to work with Mana Whenua of Tāmaki Makaurau in the identification and assessment of sites and places of significance and the cultural landscape context in which sites and places are located.

 

This position supports with the development and implementation of a programme of work to identify, asses, protect and manage sites and places of significance to Māori of Tāmaki Makaurau (SPoS).

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

We are seeking someone who has an outstanding track record of delivering collaborative results and has experience of working with/in Kaupapa Māori frameworks. You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of te ao Māori and tikanga Māori.

 

You'll have proven experience of working proficiently with computer technology and be comfortable in engaging with internal and external stakeholders as this role will see the team engaging and partnering with iwi in the region, landowners, Local Boards and Council. You will have excellent research and writing skills with the ability to deliver on time.

 

As a senior specialist you will have a relevant tertiary qualification with 7 years cumulative experience in a heritage, planning or related field. As a senior in the team, you will be required to provide a tuakana teina approach to coaching and support of colleagues within the Māori Heritage team.
