He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Local boards make local decisions on behalf of their communities, they provide leadership and engage with the public on a broad range of council-wide issues. Auckland Council's shared governance structure reflects that both local boards and the Governing Body of the Auckland Council, play important decision-making roles spanning across all local government services and activities.


This position is currently located in Orewa, in the northern most Local Board Services team, which supports the Rodney and Hibiscus and the Bays local boards. The Senior Local Board Advisor role is at the centre of supporting the Rodney Local Board, providing governance advice and supporting effective decision-making along with the development of work programmes that deliver on local community aspirations.

Certainly, you will need to be a politically savvy strategic thinker, who can problem solve and provide impeccable policy and strategy advice to support the local board in their decision-making. Having initiative and an enthusiasm to work closely with the local board and other council teams to help address issues and aspirations of local communities, is at the heart of this role.


To do justice to this position, you will need to have a strong governance background along with extensive experience in writing, managing multiple items on the go, financial acumen, and be able to demonstrate how you can effectively influence and contribute across small teams.
