Auckland Council’s Emergency Management department has an opportunity for a permanent full-time Senior Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Community Readiness Advisor to join this dedicated and passionate team. You will based in the Auckland city centre with the flexibility to work from home or a Council hub.
As a Senior Advisor, your purpose will be enhancing the emergency readiness of our culturally and linguistically diverse communities, including working with Ethnic and Pacific communities, religious leaders and faith-based groups, migrants and refugees to name a few.
In equal measure, this role has a response component in a live emergency event, implementing previously rehearsed responses and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
During an emergency activation, you will fulfil and/ or support the Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Function Advisor role, making recommendations to the response Controller and Incident Management Team on how to best to support Auckland’s diverse communities.
You could expect to:
• Develop a measurable and scalable programme that builds emergency readiness and grows hazard understanding in our culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
• Develop best practice, culturally aware engagement approaches through workshops and outreach activities
• Support training initiatives offered and developed by the department, and provide support and technical advice to ensure programmes are inclusive

We are looking for someone who is culturally competent with a broad understanding and appreciation for our diverse communities.
This role is well-suited to an established community engagement professional or an emergency management professional with the ability to build positive and harmonious relationships with trust and credibility at the core.
Delivering challenging outcomes, excellent stakeholder engagement, extremely competent decision-making and sound judgement will feature in your skill set.
We are specifically looking for:
• Demonstrated ability to design and conduct workshops and facilitate discussions
• Knowledge of the Auckland region's geography, demographics, and cultural nuances
• Competency or fluency in other languages representative of Auckland diverse Ethnic and Pacific communities is preferred
• A valid NZ driver's licence
