Location: Central Auckland, NZ, 1010
Company: Auckland Council
- Great role for engineers, resilience, emergency management or natural hazards specialists
- Help make Auckland more resilient
- Flexible working
He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our Infrastructure and Environmental Services Division has an important opportunity for a Lifeline Utility Resilience Advisor to join our team in Auckland.
The recent extreme weather events have demonstrated the importance of strengthening our resilience as a country, particularly as climate-related events become more common. The resilience of our infrastructure is critical to life safety and to the functioning of our communities and economy. While Auckland’s infrastructure providers are committed to maintaining and building resilient networks, critical infrastructure failures still pose a significant risk to the region because of the high consequences when major failures occur. Auckland is home to a lot of New Zealand’s critical infrastructure, meaning that failures in Auckland can have significant consequences for the rest of the country.
Play a key role in enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure utilities and ensuring their continuous operation during emergencies. Work closely with stakeholders from various utility sectors, government agencies, and across the Auckland Council family to develop resilience strategies, policies, and plans.
As part of your role, you'll
- support the Lifeline Utility Coordinators during civil defence activations
- maintain and develop Lifeline Utility Coordinator procedures and preparedness
- coordinate the Auckland Lifelines Group and programme manage a suite of projects for the group
- enable the Auckland Council family to comply with our obligations as a critical infrastructure owner (lifeline utility) under the new Emergency Management Act
On any given day you could be providing technical advice, analysing data, managing projects, communicating technical information, developing processes, or coordinating activities across critical infrastructure groups.
He kōrero mōu: About you
With a relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, resilience planning, emergency management, or a related field, you have a good understanding of Auckland’s hazardscape and critical infrastructure networks.
We will value your excellent communications skills including the ability to explain your ideas to non-technical audiences and tailor your communication style to suit the situation and audience.
You are politically savvy and can naturally walk the fine line of influencing and driving results with your stakeholders while maintaining and enhancing positive relationships. You are practical and solutions focused, adaptable in the face of changing requirements and resilient when dealing with challenging conversations.
You can maintain focus and composure in an emergency, and rapidly analyse incomplete information.
As you will be managing a portfolio of projects, we are looking for someone who is organised, focused on delivery and has good attention to detail.
