He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We’re looking for a passionate and skilled information professional to join our Research and Heritage team. In this Māori research specialist position, you’ll provide high-quality information services that support inquiry, creativity, and connection to Auckland’s diverse collections and communities.
You’ll support customers across all of our Auckland Libraries and beyond — online, in person, and through outreach. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead through coaching, strengthen professional practice, and contribute to inclusive heritage outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau.

This role plays a critical part in building community connection to knowledge, culture and heritage. You’ll help ensure our community can discover, interpret and engage with our collections, while supporting your colleagues to grow their capability and confidence in this space.

• Provide leadership and coaching to lift capability across Research and Heritage teams
• Champion best practice in using Māori information sources and research tools and collection management*

You’re an experienced information or heritage professional who thrives on connecting people with knowledge. You bring a strong service mindset, are confident in coaching others, and enjoy collaborating across diverse teams and communities.
You have a passion for te ao Māori, research, heritage, and inclusive access to information. You’ll bring knowledge, empathy and curiosity and a commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes for all Tāmaki Makaurau.
• Are confident working with digital and physical collections across multiple formats
• Bring strong facilitation, communication and relationship-building skills
• Are comfortable navigating complexity and delivering outcomes collaboratively
You will have LIANZA professional registration or be actively working towards registration. Auckland Council supports staff in obtaining LIANZA professional registration.
