An exciting opportunity is now available for a Senior Librarian to join the Waitematā Local Board. This role is primarily based at Parnell Library, however some flexibility is required as you may need to work from the other local libraries in the local board (Grey Lynn Library and Leys Institute Library).
This is a permanent position working 38 hours per week working either Tuesday to Saturday, or Monday to Friday with some flexibility required around working the occasional Saturday (to be discussed).

This role is for a vital leadership position in Parnell Library, focussing on planning, rostering, organisation and ensuring we deliver a quality library service that meets the needs of our community. The Senior Librarian is a process expert, with strong skills in library operations and workforce planning. They work to build a strong team identity and culture, and is an excellent communicator. This role is a key role for the Parnell Library team, providing leadership, opportunities for collaboration, and mentoring and upskilling to other staff across the local board. This role is Parnell Library’s 2IC and is able to confidently diffuse and de-escalate difficult situations, work responsively in fluid environments, and is capable, proactive and resilient.

• Provide strong leadership with excellent communication skills
• Be the senior onsite and have the capability, capacity, confidence and resilience to lead and delegate when required
• Plan, design, and implement process and workflow changes in a collaborative environment
• Be experienced in library operational systems and processes
• Upskill, mentor and provide guidance to other staff in Parnell Library and across the local board
• Have a good understanding of health, safety, security and wellbeing needs when working in a publicly accessible community space

He kōrero mōu: About you
You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to collaborate both with the library teams across the local board and with our communities. Strong librarianship and digital skills are a must, as well as the ability to foster literacy and engagement with a diverse community with diverse needs.
You will have strong leadership skills and be resilient, confident and flexible, with experience in de-escalation and health and safety. You will feel comfortable organising, upskilling and guiding staff, and work closely with the Manager Community Place to support with the library's day-to-day operations.
You will have or be working towards LIANZA professional registration.
You will also have:
• 3+ years’ experience in libraries or related fields
• Strong digital and information literacy
• Experience leading people, teams and/or projects
• Experience working with diverse communities, including Māori and Pasifika
• Knowledge of library systems, privacy principles, and collection management
