Join our Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department as a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist and take a lead technical role shaping pragmatic, best practice stormwater solutions that protect communities and environments across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Reporting through to the Manager Catchment Planning and sitting in our Catchment Planning team, you’ll champion innovation and customer centric outcomes while ensuring projects are delivered safely on time and within budget.
Collaboration is core to the mahi—working across council teams, infrastructure partners and the public. You will be guided by our values and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaitiakitanga, and embedding te ao Māori in how we work.
Day to day you could expect to work on:
- Leading complex stormwater catchment planning and preparing/reviewing stormwater management plans that align with organizational objectives.
- Managing project delivery end to end—including health & safety, risk, budget, quality and time—and acting as Engineer’s Representative where required.
- Shaping and evaluating high risk procurements, serving on tender evaluation panels and advising on key attributes.
- Partnering with colleagues across council teams and with stakeholders such as infrastructure providers, developers, and the public.
- Mentoring junior team members and providing timely, professional responses to customer requests and planning processes.
- Championing continuous improvement, innovation and a strong Health, Safety & Wellbeing culture to lift customer satisfaction and outcomes.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You’re a seasoned civil/environmental engineering professional with deep experience in three waters and a track record delivering complex, high risk stormwater projects. You bring excellent stakeholder engagement skills, sound commercial and contract acumen, and effective project leadership.
You’re comfortable using te reo Māori in everyday contexts, value tikanga at work, and role model our values to foster an inclusive, collaborative, high performing culture.
Specifically, we are looking for:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science; professional body membership (or working towards it). Post graduate and Registered/Chartered status are desirable.
- 10+ years’ experience in the three waters sector, including 5+ years in stormwater catchment planning/specialist roles, with proven delivery of significant/high risk projects.
- Technical expertise across hydrology, sustainable urban design/stormwater management, and environmental performance of stormwater systems.
- Excellent communication, consultation and stakeholder influencing skills, including public engagement.
- Demonstrated leadership in Health, Safety & Wellbeing, and sound financial/risk management.
