Join Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience department in a senior technical role focused on shaping and delivering complex stormwater and wastewater infrastructure outcomes across Tāmaki Makaurau.


As a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist (Special Projects) sitting in our Healthy Waters Network Solutions team, you will bring expert advice, practical thinking and strong project leadership to high-value, high-risk initiatives, while championing best practice, innovation and customer-focused delivery. 


Working across a broad range of stakeholders, you will play an important part in ensuring stormwater solutions are fit-for-purpose, financially sound, safe and aligned to Auckland Council’s wider strategic direction.


Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Leading the delivery of complex stormwater and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Managing procurement, contracts, budgets, risk and performance to support quality, cost-effective outcomes
  • Working closely with internal and external partners including Auckland Transport, Watercare, developers and other infrastructure providers
  • Championing innovation, continuous improvement, health and safety, and customer-focused service across projects and programmes
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff while contributing to planning, growth and future urban development work

He kōrero mōu: About you


You have previous experience in three waters infrastructure, or a closely related field, and you are confident working across both strategic and operational environments. 


You combine strong technical capability with sound judgement, commercial acumen and a collaborative approach, and you know how to build credibility with a wide range of stakeholders. Just as importantly, you are someone who leads by example whilst prioritising health and safety, supporting continuous improvement, mentoring others and contributing positively to a high-performing team culture. 


Specifically, we are looking for:

  • A degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent experience 
  • At least 7 years’ experience in the three waters infrastructure sector or a similar environment
  • Strong project management experience across significant, high-risk or high-value projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in stormwater management techniques, including engineered solutions, hydrology and environmental performance
  • Well-developed stakeholder management, consultation and communication skills
  • Experience in contract management, business case development and working within a local government or similarly complex environment
