We are looking for a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist (Operations Engineer) to join our Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department. As a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist, you’ll provide high level technical input into complex flooding issues experienced by residents in Central Auckland.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

• Leading the delivery of high-quality stormwater infrastructure projects, ensuring best practice and pragmatic solutions.
• Managing requests for service from customers and contractors, aiming for high satisfaction and efficient issue resolution.
• Identifying, scoping, and implementing projects related to water quality, flood mitigation, and asset improvement.
• Overseeing minor capital works, including renewals, upgrades, and new asset builds from concept to delivery.
• Championing health, safety, and wellbeing within the team and among contractors, ensuring compliance and effective auditing.
• Collaborating with stakeholders across Council, industry partners, and infrastructure providers to deliver integrated outcomes.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We’re looking for an engineer with extensive expertise in civil/environmental engineering and a strong background in the delivery of stormwater solutions including project management, design and/or operations of water related infrastructure projects.

To be successful in this role you will have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in the three waters infrastructure sector or equivalent with a minimum of 4 specifically in stormwater management. 

The successful candidate also needs to be comfortable working closely with internal and external stakeholders and the community, ensuring strong engagement and interaction with those stakeholders with a view to constantly improvement customer satisfaction.

Specifically, we are looking for:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in three waters infrastructure, including significant stormwater experience
• Strong technical capability across stormwater systems, including site safety and design
• Proven stakeholder management and consultation skills, particularly in complex or sensitive environments
• Experience working within local government or similarly complex, politically aware environments
