He angitūtanga: The opportunity


The Local Board Financial Advisory team is seeking a Senior Finance and Performance Advisor, providing both strategic and operational financial advice to local board members and staff. This role also provides support to the Local Board Financial Advisory team for processes and projects that extend across all 21 local boards.


You will be focussed on providing excellent financial advice and developing robust financial acumen within the team and local boards that you will support. You are the face of the finance division at local board meetings and workshops, presenting multifaceted and complex information, ensuring all concerns and enquiries are resolved and addressed. 


Day to day deliverables you can expect to work on:

  • Produce regular reports for local boards that you are supporting
  • Review and provide guidance to elected members and staff
  • Co-ordinate and update key team planning documents
  • Deliver projects to improve financial processes at operational and governance levels
  • Implement continuous improvement across the team

He kōrero mōu: About you


You will hold a tertiary qualification in finance, commerce or business management and ideally hold a professional registration with CAANZ or similar relevant body. You will have at least 5 years of demonstratable expertise in senior financial and business advisory roles. 


Ideally, you will have experience giving formal presentations and providing complex and often difficult advice to senior leadership and management teams including elected representatives and executives within a political environment. 


This role requires a flexible approach to working including the ability to work across multiple locations (head office and local board offices).


We will also be looking for:

  • Experience leading organisation-wide improvement projects relating to financial and non-financial performance
  • Demonstratable management accounting skills including planning, budgeting and forecasting
  • Expertise in understanding and implementing local government financial policy
  • Previous experience working in agile and collaborative teams
  • Data collation and analyst skills
