We are looking for a Senior Finance Business Partner to join a great Financial Advisory team with the Financial & Business Performance department. In this role you will be a trusted advisor working in the business supporting decision-making to improve the financial performance.
As a Senior Finance Business Partner, you will ensure financial structures are aligned to deliver organisational strategies and outcomes within Auckland Council by:
- Supporting structural and organisational change planning, submissions, and delivery
- Leading and supporting delivery of financial advisory outcomes, timelines and processes
- Reviewing current financial structures and reporting for improvements
Please note this role also has a dotted reporting line for 3 Finance Business Partners.

You can expect to focus on:
- Analysing and interpreting data and promoting financially prudent business decisions
- Reviewing business cases, financial scenario modelling, and providing a commercial lens on contracts
- Investigating ways to improve financial efficiencies within your business area
- Communicating financial information to people from all walks of life, who are often non-financial
- Helping to develop financial training materials, coaching business staff to upskill their financial acumen and mentoring the Finance Business Partners and Financial Technicians within the team.
- Developing and coaching other team members

This position requires experience in similar business partnering positions, ideally from within large and complex organisations. Experience with our local government would be advantageous!
You can pronounce and use basic Te Reo Māori in emails, meetings and conversations. You understand, demonstrate and value the use of tikanga where appropriate.
You will have a sense of humour and can create a positive team environment. You are not fazed by supporting fast paced businesses and will thrive on working in an agile environment.
You will ideally have some exposure with Contracts Management and Asset Management Planning (both from Asset and capital planning perspective). Your understanding of capital delivery, building and grounds maintenance would be advantageous.
We will be looking for experience in:
- Thorough understanding of management accounting principles and techniques including experience in planning, budgeting and forecasting
- Reviewing and preparing month-end financial results, updating forecasts and preparation of annual budgets
- Understanding and application of internal and external business drivers
- Working with SAP.
A degree in Finance, Commerce or Business Management and a Professional registration with CA or similar are a must.
