He angitutanga: The opportunity

Senior Officer within our Environmental Monitoring Unit that forms part of the wider Licensing and Compliance department at Auckland Council. Our team is responsible for monitoring resource consents for construction and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance. We cover the entire Auckland region and are passionate about preventing and minimising environmental risks to land, air and water, whilst promoting sustainable development in a fast-growing city. 

We have roles based across the Auckland region. These roles will have a specialist focus on earthworks and streamworks, where you will monitor activities to prevent impacts of soil erosion, sedimentation and dust from earthworks, that can potentially pollute streams, lakes, and harbours, and pose risks to freshwater and marine vegetation and animals. 

Your time will predominantly be spent on-site to determine any potential areas of non-compliance and assess the impacts of these against statutory requirements, with a focus on the effects to the environment and the community. You will be responsible for undertaking enforcement action (where required), providing advice and education to consent holders, industry and helping our customers to understand and comply with their consent requirements.  

Full-time permanent role 40 hours per week Monday to Friday based in Auckland Central. 

He kōrero mōu: About you 

Your CV will demonstrate previous experience in planning or environmental compliance, or you may possess a technical qualification in science, environmental or resource management. Sound knowledge of the Resource Management Act and related legislation would be ideal. Earthworks and streamworks is the specialist focus of these roles, as such experience in these fields will be key. 

Excellent investigation and problem-solving abilities coupled with sound communication, interpersonal, leadership and relationship building skills will be required. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills will also be important in ensuring quality environmental outcomes are achieved for Auckland.

Salary range: $91,027 to $110,000 plus Kiwisaver contribution
