Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) helps communities across Tāmaki Makaurau prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters. We work closely with agencies, partners, and communities to strengthen resilience and support effective emergency management across the region.

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

 

As a Senior Emergency Management Advisor, you’ll help ensure Auckland is ready to respond to emergencies and significant incidents.

 

You’ll work across readiness and response activities, helping develop and maintain plans, procedures, systems, and operational processes. You’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders, support training and exercises, and share your expertise to strengthen team capability.

 

This role also includes participating in the rostered Duty Manager / Duty Officer function, including on-call responsibilities. You’ll be responsible for receiving and assessing hazard and incident information, monitoring risks, and supporting operational decision-making during emergency situations.

 

This is a varied and exciting role suited to someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and can remain calm under pressure.

We’re looking for someone with experience in emergency management, incident response, or a related operational environment where decision making and communication are critical.

 

You will bring:

 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • The ability to assess and interpret information from multiple sources 
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills 
  • Confidence working in high-pressure situations 
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support and mentor others 
  • Resilience, sound judgement, and professionalism 

 

Experience with alternative communications systems including digital radio would be an advantage.
