He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

Auckland Emergency Management has an opportunity for a 14-month fixed-term, full-time Senior Education and Youth Advisor to join this passionate and dedicated team. This role is based in the Auckland City Centre with the flexibility to work from home or a Council hub.

 

As a Senior Advisor, you will develop and deliver projects and programmes to empower young people, schools and youth groups to become more prepared, resilient and ready to respond in the next emergency. You will also manage outreach to early childhood centres, schools and tertiary education to support their preparedness for emergencies.

 

This role will be required to participate in the CDEM on-call and stand-by emergency response system, including the 24/7 duty team roster and be required to support during emergency response activation.

 

You could expect to work on:
•    Developing and maintaining relationships with early childhood centres, schools, youth organisations, and youth groups to champion disaster preparedness and resilience 
•    Organising and leading workshops, seminars, and training sessions; gaining youth insights to ensure the programme of work is effective 
•    Tailor and co-design age-appropriate educational materials, lesson plans for teachers, information for parents and students. 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

You’ll have the ability to take topics like disaster preparedness and hazard warnings and craft them into impactful messages that motivate and inspire Tamaki Makaurau’s young people. Familiarity with the 4 R’s (Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery), clear communication and proven community development practice will feature in your skillset. 

 

We are looking for someone who can foster strong, collaborative relationships with trust & credibility at its core. At times you may work in the context of uncertainty, testing your resilience and adaptability.

 

We are specifically looking for:
•    Strong written and facilitation skills to plan and conduct workshops, training sessions and seminars.
•    Proven experience in community development, emergency management or a related field. 
•    Must hold a current NZ driver’s licence as you will be required to travel to the various schools and communities.
•    An established understanding of Auckland’s diverse youth communities would be an advantage for our applicants.
