Senior Ecologist - Service and Practice Lead

This is your opportunity to be at the forefront of helping achieve a flourishing and protected natural environment for Auckland through a period of significant legislative reforms!  

 

We are looking for a senior with great client and customer service credentials, who builds constructive networks, and who can support the ongoing development of clear guidance and practice notes to improve terrestrial ecology, wetland and natural features outcomes through Auckland Councils' regulatory and policy functions.

 

An important part of the role is the liaison with planners and coordinating the allocation and management of review requests through our team of 13 and the external consultants who support us. You need to have a good understanding of the Resource Management Act and the roles of applicants and council, planners and specialists, through the consenting process.  

 

Our team provide expert ecological and natural features advice and support across council including resource consents, policy, parks management, and biosecurity and biodiversity programmes, as well as managing our own projects, to ensure the protection and restoration of indigenous ecosystems, habitats, and species, and natural features on public and private land.  

 

The team has a regional focus and this role will be based in the City Centre or Orewa with some flexibility to work in other locations.

As a senior, we will look to you to support and mentor others, focus on solutions, drive improvements in our work, work with others to set best practices, and take the lead on challenging issues or projects. You are collaborative, innovative, and passionate about delivering outcomes for Auckland’s natural environment.  

 

With five to seven years’ work experience in or around the resource management act or environmental policy, we’re looking for someone who wants a role with a focus on service to clients and customers, maintaining professional networks, and driving improvements in business processes and practice. 

 

Experience working as a specialist, planner, or policy advisor in the resource management act is highly beneficial but not required.
