Auckland Council’s Licensing & Environmental Health department has an opportunity for a Senior Compliance Officer – Noise; reporting to the Team Leader – Environmental Health Noise, this role is all about making a difference in our communities by helping to resolve noise complaints fairly, professionally, and timely.
You’ll be at the forefront of ensuring compliance, supporting customers, and mentoring colleagues, while applying your expertise to deliver best practice outcomes. This is a chance to use your interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and problem-solving ability to improve the way Aucklanders experience their city.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Responding to and investigating noise complaints, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes
- Providing advice, education, and mediation to resolve issues at the earliest opportunity
- Auditing contractors and reporting on performance against KPIs
- Supporting the Team Leader with work programmes, mentoring, and coaching staff
- Applying legislation, bylaws, and standards to achieve compliance outcomes
- Undertaking out-of-hours monitoring and participating in on-call duties
- Assisting other Licensing & Environmental Health teams with inspections when required

This role requires experience in similar regulatory enforcement roles, with a sound understanding of noise control and environmental health legislation. You’ll be confident working directly with the public, able to balance empathy with firm decision-making, and skilled at building strong relationships with stakeholders.
You’ll thrive in a busy environment, be highly organised, and bring initiative and resourcefulness to every challenge. Just as importantly, you’ll be a team player who enjoys coaching others and contributing to continuous improvement.
We will be looking for specific experience with:
- At least five years in front-line regulatory enforcement, including three years in noise control
- Strong conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation skills
- Contemporary working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Natural and Built Environment Act, Council Bylaws, Unitary Plan, and relevant NZ Standards
- Coaching and mentoring team members to build capability
- Excellent communication skills across a wide range of stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- A current NZ Driver’s licence (essential)
- A certificate in environmental noise, acoustics, or similar (preferred but not essential)

The remuneration range for this role is $88,528 – 93,000 (Based on skills & experience)
