He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Environmental Services (ES) department’s Natural Environment teams deliver conservation operations including ecosystem and species survey and monitoring, pest plant and animal control, kauri dieback management, and increasing community-led conservation action.
 
We are looking for a Senior Bio Information Analyst to join our award-winning Bio Information team in ES to support the strategic and operational information needs of our conservation staff working on biosecurity and biodiversity outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau.

 

This is a fixed term role to cover parental leave, ending 23rd January 2026.
 
Your primary focus will be data management, modelling and analysis to support projects within the Biodiversity Focus Area (BFA) programme. You will provide technical advice on species and ecosystem database management, spatial analysis and reporting and will have experience in data model development. You will also mentor Bio Information Analysts and other staff who may need specialist geospatial, conservation data or statistical guidance.
Ability to support use of our Natural Environment Microsoft Dynamics database will form part of this role.

  • Qualification Checks will be conducted along with other relevant pre-employment checks required for employment with Auckland Council.
  • This role is deemed safety sensitive and, in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will have an excellent working knowledge of conservation information management, databases and geospatial mapping, coupled with knowledge of NZ ecology and the principles and practices of managing and protecting it.  Experience and knowledge of threatened species and ecosystem information management and the Biosecurity Act is desirable
 
You will be highly proficient in the ESRI suite of products, project management and mentoring. You may have experience in the application of spatial data for statutory (e.g. Regional Pest Management Plan) purposes. Knowledge of open-source GIS products, statistical/spatial modelling software, coupled with an understanding of database development will also be an advantage.
 
We are looking for team players, who thrive on challenges and have excellent communication and project management skills, dealing with people in a customer service capacity. A full driver's licence is also required.
