He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We have an exciting new opportunity to join the Operations and Policy team in Local Board Services as a Senior Advisor. This is your chance to hone your strategic and political nous, providing strategic advice and support on the broad array of issues impacting the local communities of Tāmaki Makaurau. 


Reporting to the Team Leader – Operations and Policy, you’ll work across the wider council family to help identify and facilitate opportunities for all 21 local boards to input into central government proposals and regional strategies, plans, policies, and submissions. You’ll also help develop and implement strategic planning frameworks, support stakeholder engagement, build relationships with key internal and external partners and help colleagues across the council family navigate their work with local boards. The work we do here is essential to support boards in their decision-making and leadership.

He kōrero mōu: About you

Working in this environment, you need to be politically astute, exercise sound judgement and demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical evaluation skills. You’ll need a tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience).

 

Local or central government sector experience is strongly preferred, but you could also be working in a similar role in a banking, consultancy, or legal environment with a demonstrated ability to give policy and strategic advice. Excellent relationship-building, issues management and communication skills will help you work effectively and remain calm under pressure in a politically charged environment.
