Auckland Council’s Democracy & Engagement department has an opportunity for a fixed-term full time Senior Advisor to join the Councillor Support team until May 2025. This role will report directly to the Team Leader and be based in the Auckland city centre with the opportunity to work flexibly.

 

This role will be at the heart of our council's political and decision-making processes. Your primary responsibility will be to provide essential support, advice, and connections to our councillors, enabling them to operate efficiently, provide leadership, and engage with the people of Tāmaki Makaurau. 

 

You will play a crucial role in maintaining impartiality while possessing a sharp understanding of working within a political environment

 

You can be expected to work directly with councillors and senior staff on:

•    Provision of robust advice, supporting policy matters for the Auckland region 
•    Maintaining stakeholder management and relationship building on behalf of the councillors
•    Timely governance process and administrative support
•    Assistance with the preparation of speeches, alongside communications and general media support

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about Auckland. You will be politically savvy with the ability to process complex information and provide focussed unbiased advice and guidance to members of the Governing Body. Ideally you will be a self-motivator with high-level organisation skills.

 

You will likely have experience in large and complex and potentially political organisations. To be successful in this role you will have a good attitude, resilience and the ability to manage high-pressure situations.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:
•    Teamwork and collaboration
•    Strong communication skills
•    Political acumen and awareness
